GOVERN is a product of Haske Labs, built on research into how laboratory values are produced, reported, and used in clinical decisions.

Why we built it

A laboratory result can be correctly reported and still leave open questions about the conclusion drawn from it. Different accepted calculations can place the same sample on opposite sides of a clinical threshold, and the record often does not show how the value was produced.

We started with that question and studied it in large clinical datasets. GOVERN turns what we learned into a product that brings the relevant evidence together, shows what it does and does not support, and leaves the decision with the clinician.

Where the research comes from

GOVERN grew out of research at Howard University’s RCMI Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, as part of the Howard RCMI program’s work on the measurement integrity of laboratory values used in treatment decisions.

The research behind GOVERN was supported in part by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) of the National Institutes of Health under Award Number U54MD007597, through the Howard University RCMI Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Ronald Doku, PhD

Researcher, Howard University

Principal developer of GOVERN’s measurement-integrity methods. Leads customer discovery and the translation of the research into a product that health systems can use.

Director of Information Systems, RCMI Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Howard University

Leads GOVERN’s technical architecture and development, with more than 18 years of experience in research computing, clinical databases, cloud infrastructure, and biomedical informatics.

John Kwagyan, PhD

Graduate Associate Professor of Public Health, Howard University

Brings expertise in public health informatics, health data science, and translational research, and provides scientific and institutional oversight of the work.

How we work

Evidence before claims
We publish what our studies show and what they do not, and we keep those limits next to the numbers.
The clinician decides
GOVERN never changes a reported result or makes a clinical decision. It shows what the evidence supports.
Start without patient data
Every engagement begins with a conversation. Any later record access is a separate step, approved by the institution.
